Veteran gladiators Barca and Gannicus note the rising star of Crixus, as the machinations of Batiatus and Lucretia end in tragedy for several members of the household. While Gannicus is flashy and flamboyant and often seems to be making his moves up as he fights. Purchased as an undisciplined and disheveled recruit in the first episode, Crixus the Gaul endures mockery and threats of death to become the champion after Gannicus. And Oenomause is the wise leader of the stables and the only one Gannicus respects and sometimes listens to.
He sadly died later and never returned. I've watched Gods of the Arena and Blood and Sand multiple times. The main character is best described as a latter day rock star. A young, long haired and very naive, stick in the mud, Cirxus shows up and is taught the ropes of the arena. Mainly by doing the opposite of anything he sees Gannicus doing. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena begins strong and ends amazing. Quintus Lentulus Batiatus becomes a lanista manager when he takes over his father's ludus of gladiators.
Those who oppose Batiatus and his future champion s of Capua do so at their own peril. I will be purchasing this on blu ray once it is released and will be purchasing Blood and Sand so that I can go back and watch it again. Even their fighting styles are different. This is adult entertainment at its best. So Spartacus does not show up in this season I don't believe. Then I watched two movies, The Right Stuff 1983 and Apollo 13 1995 , and then two great series, From Earth to the Moon 1998 and The Astronauts Wives Club 2015.
The mini-series features the bloody history of the House of Batiatus and the city of Capua before the arrival of Spartacus. Spartacus is technically perfect and does everything by the book. This series is set before the original season when Spartacus was captured. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for.
The surprisingly good writing in this season and all the others makes the entire series much more than the hack and slash bare breasted extravaganza that I originally tuned in for. If you like reading try some of my favorite fantasy and sci-fi authors: Richard Adams, Palo Bacigulupi, Suzanne Collins, Abe Evergreen, Diana Gabaldon, Hugh Howey, George Martin, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir. Before Spartacus struck down his first opponent in the arena, there were many gladiators who passed though the gates onto the sand. By his side stands his beautiful wife Lucretia who will help her husband achieve his ambitions, whatever the cost.
But fear not Gannicus is a much more interesting and fun character than Spartacus is any way. It opens like a book and has sleeves for the discs. I hope I've been helpful. The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. Naked people are all over the screen yet again, most are quite pleasing to look at though. By virtue of his win against Solonius' gladiators, he gains his freedom and Crixus becomes the new champion. It helps that Gannicus adores Oenomause's wife like a much loved older sister he keeps disappointing.
These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. When the arena opens, Batiatus' gladiators prevail in the contest. And is often found drunkenly recovering in the arms of his last nights sexual conquests. I enjoyed this miniseries to the fullest extent. The discs play fine, but I'd rather have a plastic snap case. As Batiatus fends off repeated attempts by his professional rival Tullius to obtain Gannicus, his relationships with his father Titus and friend Solonius begin to suffer the strain of his relentless ambition. This prequel to the first season presents an abundant amount of missing and unknown information from the first season which provides better understanding to what is going on, who is who, why they were or were not there in the first season and much more.
Were Spartacus is a short haired stoic, leader of men who is unwavering in his ultimate goal and ideals. The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. The look and feel are unlike any other series I can recall except Rome, which is another great series. This is the ultimate guy series. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. The nudity, sex and goofy language is there just as it were in Blood and Sand, but I must admit I was not as put off by it as I was with the first season. Gannicus is the man you want to party with and by your side when the bar fight breaks out.
Gannicus is his moral opposite. If you like sci-fi you might like a couple of space race shows. And he ll have his loyal and calculating wife Lucretia by his side for every underhanded scheme, drawing on the brazen talents of her seductive friend Gaia when it counts. He is easily my favorite character in the entire series as he shows up again and often in later seasons. That would be his best gladiator, the Celt, Gannicus, a skilled warrior who wields dual swords with deadly purpose. I'm sure I'd enjoy it much much more the second time around.
Gannicus was a great character to have and was not as annoying as Spartacus was in Blood and Sand. I read that the blu ray release will contain extended episodes too much for tv as the first season did which is always a nice plus to have. Spartacus is he man you want to lead your army. The series follows the character Gannicus, the first gladiator representing Lentulus Batiatus to become Champion of Capua. First I read Space by James A. Who's motto is sex drugs and rock and roll. By now the obscene, yet rather odd, language is quite enjoyable and laughable where as in the first season I was not to favorable of it.
